Busy Philipps: Some first grader told Birdie and her best friend today that "your parents hide presents after you go to sleep and write Santa on them". But Birdie told me she wasn't having it. She said "I just looked at him and said 'PROVE IT' and also?" she continued,"THEN WHAT ABOUT THE ELVES?! I KNOW those are magic." What happens between kindergarten and first grade? How do we help kids to believe in magic for as long as possible? How do we help ourselves keep magic in our lives? I know it seems dumb to some people or too much. But I love these elves. I love the look on Birdie's face every morning. And I just hope that even after she has an understanding of what's REAL, she will still believe in magic. Because there's a lot of shit in this world. But I know there's magic too. I really really believe that to be true.
