Michelle Obama: Surprise! The First Lady visited the gardens under the tender care of the students of John Burroughs Elementary. Each winter the students plant seeds and learn about how fruits and vegetables grow outside their classroom windows. And they showed the First Lady the magic of worm composting as worms break down food waste and return the nutrients to the soil. #LetsMove

Michelle Obama: Hello, Watkins Elementary School! These students received some garden goodies during a surprise visit from the First Lady to help get their school garden started this year. Watkins is home to a bountiful schoolyard garden that helps teach students about the benefits of local sourced food. The First Lady helped the students whip up Three Sisters tacos, making corn tortillas from scratch with a side of kale salad using kale harvested from the school garden. #LetsMove

Clarence House: “We all have our own favourite books that we could read over and over again. For me, they were the stories my father read to me – wide-eyed Alice finding herself in Wonderland; the fearless Scarlet Pimpernel deep in the dungeons of the Bastille and Oliver Twist daring to ask for more gruel.” - HRH The Duchess of Cornwall on the magic of reading. Michelle Obama: Welcome to Instagram, @WHKitchenGarden! In March 2009, the First Lady broke ground on the South Lawn for the @WhiteHouse Kitchen Garden. Ever since, the garden has allowed garden to table to become a reality right in the backyard of the White House. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs are grown each season with the help of students and shared with @MiriamsKitchen, a local organization that prepares healthy meals for the homeless. Follow along to see the garden grow (plus tips to start your own garden!) throughout the year. 🍅🌽🍊
