James Van Der Beek: Great insight from someone in the know. Rant away, Ilaria... #GoGetEmGirl #Repost @ilariaurbinati with @repostapp. ・・・ So this is pretty cool... More importantly they've introduced new Barbies of varying ethnicities. As far as the whole body image thing, I feel like fashion magazines screw with girls' body image more than any doll ever could. It makes me fucking livid when designers' samples barely zip up on my "perfectly" slim and toned size 2 and 4 clients - what is that??? Those are the actual same samples going down runways and ending up in the magazines that end up in the hands of every girl and woman around the world - literally. What is the message we are sending here? The average age of a runway model nowadays is 14 to 19. So in other words, why are the clothes being used in magazines that are supposed to be representing ideals of beauty in our culture (and not to mention that only adult women could realistically afford) being fitted for teenage bodies? I can guarantee that half the non-models (i.e. actresses who are already considered to be an elevated ideal of beauty) you see in glamorous dresses on covers of magazines are only half zipped up in the back - being held together by clamps and clips - because God forbid anyone has a slightly broader back or -worse - hips! And then they're retouching them on top of that!!! Ugh I don't even know how I got on this rant but I mean why don't they just bind our feet and remove a rib while they're at it. #justsaying #morningrant #barbiegotmestarted #okthatlastbitwasalittledramatic
